Exclusive: “Spooky College allowed me to step away from the demure, introverted archetype,” says Kushee Ravi

Kushee Ravi in Spooky College

Kushee Ravi became a household name following her memorable debut outing ‘Dia’. Through the titular role, she revealed herself to be a credible performer who warranted many more exciting opportunities and one such is the upcoming horror comedy Spooky College. The film will feature Kushee Ravi in not one but two roles that are starkly different from one another in terms of tone and energy.

“While ‘Dia’ fetched me a lot of fame and respect from the audience, it was apparent that the film industry saw me as this demure, shy and introverted girl. The scripts I would read after ‘Dia’ had similar characters and while I am quite keen on exploring the type further, there is also a risk of getting typecast. So, in that regard, I am really glad that something like ‘Spooky College’ came along right after ‘Dia’ because I get to be versatile with two contrasting characters in the film. And working with Vivek Simha too has been enriching experience because he is quite the “off the cuff” kind of peformer and it was great fun to match his energy on sets,” shares Kushee Ravi in an exclusive chat with OTTplay.

And along with the on-screen prospects, Kushee is particularly kicked about the team she is part of. Be it producer H.K. Prakash or the technical crew behind the making, there is an array of highly regarded names working on the film.

“If you consider that past decade or so for Kannada cinema, the only “genre” film or a bonafide horror film that did really well at the box office is ‘RangiTaranga’. And ever since, I had aspired to be part of an ecosystem that created such content and when I was told that H.K. Prakash sir was producing Spooky College, I couldn’t believe my luck. The entire film has been executed with great professionalism and passion and the whole experience has been just like how I imagined it would be,” adds Kushee.

Spooky College has been written and directed by Bharath G with Ajaneesh B. Loknath composing the soundtrack and Manohar Joshi handling cinematography - K.P. Srikanth is the editor. The team has wrapped up production barring a song shoot and is currently eyeing a theatrical release sometime in July or August. The first look of the film was unveiled recently on social media.
