The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American English - language film directed by Frank Darabont. It is a drama film starring Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins, Bob Gunton, William Sadler, Clancy Brown, Gil Bellows, and James Whitmore. The film follows the experiences of a formerly successful banker who got arrested and is now living his life as a prisoner in the gloomy jailhouse of Shawshank after being found guilty of a crime that was not committed by him. The film depicts the man's way of dealing with his new, torturous life. The film shows his behaviour towards fellow prisoners and how he befriends them, especially a wise long-term inmate named Red.
