Ayushmann Khurrana’s films never disappoint when it comes to asking some important questions. Anek continues the tradition. The film is based on conflicts in the North Eastern states in the country, and Khurrana essays the role of an undercover cop. The makers unveiled the film’s trailer today, and netizens certainly had a lot to say about it.

Twitter was erupt with fans praising the trailer, commending both Khurrana and the film’s director Anubhav Sinha. Many users found the trailer ‘hard hitting’, and became stoked to see the film in theatres.

Users commended the duo for tackling such an important subject. One user wrote about how relevant the film was in a time that India seemed so ‘divided’, and called it ‘an attempt to unite India’. Users praised Khurrana for choosing to do the film, with one even calling him one of the few stars in Bollywood to serve ‘content rich cinema’ to audiences. One user even called the trailer the best trailer to come in 2022 so far.

Sinha’s choice of subject was also praised by viewers. The filmmaker has also helmed socially relevant films in the past, such as Mulk (2018), Article 15 (2019) and Thappad (2020). Sinha and Khurrana had collaborated on Article 15. When Anek’s trailer came out, many users pointed to the director’s previous works, and talked about how he is coming back with another story that ‘needs to be heard’.

A particular scene in the trailer seemed to make a strong impact on users as well. In the scene, Khurrana’s character is seen asking when people stop becoming ‘North Indian’ and ‘South Indian’ and start to become just ‘Indians’. Many users picked out this particular scene to post.

Anek will be released in theatres on May 27.
